Salivary Gland Ultrasound
Salivary glands are common targets for various autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases (e.g., Sjogren’s syndrome, lupus, sarcoidosis, etc.) Therefore, sonographic analysis of salivary glands can be a valuable diagnostic tool in the hands of an experienced physician.
A salivary gland ultrasound typically involves analysis of large parotid and submandibular salivary glands. It assesses salivary gland size, architecture, blood supply and inflammation, as well as size, texture and specific appearance of intraglandular lymphatic nodules.
